FloormapVS2i sales go from strength to strength - Computerized MFL corrosion detection and sizing tank floor scanner
The FloormapVS2i was launched in October 2007
and in 9 months has achieved in excess of £1,000,000 worth of sales.
The FloormapVS2 Silverwing’s computerized MFL corrosion detection and sizing tank floor scanner has been a world leader but as with all floor scanners it was optimised for under floor corrosion detection and sizing. This has meant that some shapes and depths of top surface corrosion were potentially missed by the scanner. If adequate lighting and experienced operators were not available there was a chance that these top surface corrosion pits went un-reported.
Silverwing UK has a policy of continuous development of it’s product range. This development is carried out both in-house and with the assistance of UK Universities. The collaboration with the Universities allows us to sustain a level of development normally associated with of a much larger companies. Through the sponsorship of a PHD student at Swansea University we have been able to spend the last two years on continuous research into this problem, a level of commitment to continuous research & development that other MFL manufacturers are unable to match. Results from the research, which are covered by a confidentiality agreement, have enabled Silverwing to design new electronic circuits which have been added to the FloormapVS2 system to provide the basis of the FloormapVS2i system. The new electronic circuits have improved the top surface corrosion detection and sizing capabilities to such an extent that there is now little or no difference between top and bottom surface corrosion detection and sizing capability.
The FloormapVS2i is a fast detection, sizing and mapping MFL scanner designed for the inspection of above ground storage tank floors. It is capable of generating a full C-scan image of the tank floor with defects positioned to a +/- 3mm accuracy on an 8 metre scan. The system uses a dual sizing procedure enabling the FloormapVS2i's sizing accuracy to be to within +/- 5% on most corrosion types, which is as good if not better than most manual UT.
In line with our manufacturing policy older versions of the Floormap system and even the MFL 2000 series of screening scanners are able to be up-graded to the latest FloormapVS2i specifications. In the last 9 months Silverwing is proud to announce that is has up-graded 13 systems to the latest FloormapVs2i specification and sold a further 21 new system around the world, proof that even in this harsh economic climate high quality, reliable products are still in demand.
